Artist Overview
Arco Obscura
The cello, fractured into light.
Arco Obscura is the solo project of Arthur Thompson, a composer and multi-instrumentalist who forges a cinematic hybrid of post-metal weight, dark ambient atmosphere, and the raw emotional gravity of the cello.
The music lives in the tension between noise and stillness, a place where resonance becomes ritual, and empathy becomes a journey through shadow.
Arthur picked up the cello at 9 years old, joined the National Children’s Orchestra at 13, and went on to study cello and double bass at the prestigious Chetham’s School of Music under the renowned Nigel Blomiley.
Arthur later became an in demand session musician, performing with major UK orchestras and working alongside respected artists including Liam Fender, The Pale White, and multiple touring and studio ensembles.
Arco Obscura distils those decades of orchestral discipline and alternative music into a single, visceral cinematic voice.
